SHOW NOTES: onairwithella.com/104/

Welcome to the third installment of this new weekly feature where I share one thing that I'm loving, one thing I'm not, and one simple, SUPER easy, clean-eating recipe. You can find the first one here, and last week's right here.

the GOOD: Wellness Mama website

Katie is the "Wellness Mama" - one of my favorite go-to resources for all things natural living and wellness-related.

the BAD: Teflon and Non-Stick Cookware

  • Teflon sucks. Read my full rant about this toxic household product: "Can Cookware be Toxic?"
  • Want more info? Here's the experts' take:
  • So, what are your options?
  • What if you have no choice? Maybe you're visiting friends or spending a week in a vacation home. Here are some tips for when you are stuck with the nonstick cookware as your only option:
    • Don't preheat - heat at the lowest temperature possible to cook your food safely.
    • Don't put nonstick cookware in an oven hotter than 400 degrees.
    • Use an exhaust fan over the stove.
    • Keep pet birds out of the kitchen -- the fumes from an overheated pan can kill a bird in seconds. For real. Read the article!
  • Did you know? Skip the self-cleaning function on your oven. It cleans by heating to high temperatures, which can release toxic fumes from non-stick interior oven parts.

the YUMMY: Almost Oatmeal by Paleo Plan

You Need:

Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients in a small pan over medium heat, stirring often until all is thoroughly combined and warm.
  • Try it topped with pears, bananas, fresh or dried berries, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, grated apples, or sliced almonds, and serve it with sausage or eggs for a truly satisfying morning meal.

See the original recipe here, and a TON of other simple recipes from Paleo Plan.

SHOW NOTES: onairwithella.com/104/

She had to shed $130,000+ in debt before she could shed 130+ pounds.

You've heard my buddy Elizabeth Benton of Primal Potential on the show before, but you have not heard this story. In her own words:

In my late twenties I embarked on a totally different journey. I was determined to get out of debt. Between my husband and I, we had well over $100,000 in student loans and other small, miscellaneous debts – just over $130,000, actually. After reading a Dave Ramsey book, I focused on the goal with unrivaled intensity. We met, and surpassed, our goal in less than 2 years. Little did I know that the process of getting out of debt would teach me everything I needed to know to finally tackle my lifelong weight struggles. It’s true. The crazy parallels between paying off $130,000 and losing over 130 pounds are astonishing. Here’s what getting out of debt taught me about life and extreme weight loss.

This is one of several shows I'll be doing to continue our Life Balance Wheel series in the area of financial health, and it is chock full of information that will help you in many areas of your life balance wheel.

How Do We Change Our Beliefs About Money?

Ryan Yokome says there are typically two beliefs that stop people from making money doing what they love:

  1. The belief that it’s not right to make money from doing what you love.
  2. The belief that this never enough money and you have to be careful with what you have.

How do you change these beliefs? We're talking all about it in today's episode. This is one of several shows I'll be doing to continue our Life Balance Wheel series in the area of financial health.

What We Talk About:

  • What meaning are you associating with money?
  • How does your mindset affect your ability to attract money to you?
  • What's your money story? How to create a more empowering belief.
  • The evolution: Surviving --> Saving --> Serving
  • Follow along! Click Here to Download the Life Balance Wheel Worksheet
    • How to complete the worksheet: score each area as where you are today. The goal is not to have a high score everywhere. It's simply a tool to evaluate where you're strongest, and which areas you want to focus on next.

Welcome to the second installment of this new weekly feature where I share one thing that I'm loving, one thing I'm not, and one simple, easy, clean recipe.

the GOOD: Liquid Multivitamins from Mary Ruth Organics

  • Mary Ruth Organics Premium Supplements – I was introduced to Mary Ruth Organics by a listener, and on a whim decided to try out both the morning and evening liquid vitamins. (I try to get most of my vitamins from REAL FOOD - especially after this interview with Gary Collins! - but I know I'm lacking in magnesium, vitamins D and B).
  • I started these about 3 months ago, and judging by my fingernails and hair, there’s something to this (they’re growing like crazy!).
  • I’m now on monthly auto-ship (saves 10%), and I find this far easier than pill-popping for some reason. Get a one month supply for $39.95 per bottle, or auto-ship and save a bit more. It comes to about $2.40 a day, and I am a total convert.

the BAD: Air Fresheners, Fragrances & Diffusers

 the YUMMY: Spaghetti Squash Frittata

You Need:

  • 1 small spaghetti squash (need ~2 cups shredded)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup organic kale or spinach, chopped
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced (or another veggie)
  • 1/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp oregano (or spices you like!)
  • sea salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions:

  • Bake the spaghetti squash: Wash and slice the squash in half (length-wise) and place cut sides face down onto a baking sheet with some water in the bottom of it. Roast about 25-30 minutes at 350F (until tender). When done, shred the insides with a fork into a bowl and set aside.   *I do this in advance and keep in fridge until I'm ready to make something!
  • Sauté your chopped onion, mushrooms, etc - add the greens last and don't overcook
  • Crack the eggs into the bowl with the squash and mix in the spices
  • Stir in the veggies and then pour the mixture into the sauté pan, cover and cook over medium heat for about 8 minutes or until eggs are cooked through.

BONUS! 5-minute version: I will often shortcut this recipe for a simple, SUPER easy dish with pre-cooked squash. Simply scoop some squash in a bowl and stir in 2 eggs and S&P. Cook as you would an omelet. Makes a big, fluffy, easy egg dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
